GABORONE, 12th March 2025: The Ministry of International Relations wishes to inform the public that President Duma Gideon Boko will participate in a virtual Extraordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government, scheduled for 13th March 2025.

The Summit will discuss the political and security developments in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and receive updates on the current deteriorating security situation. Most recently, there has been an upsurge of violent conflict in Eastern DRC involving different armed groups. The violence has further exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, increased forced civilian displacements and causalities.

President Boko's participation underscores Botswana's dedication to regional unity and cooperation in tackling shared challenges.

The President will be joined in the Meeting by Honourable Dr. Phenyo Butale, Minister of International Relations, and Honourable Mr. Moeti Mohwasa, Minister for State President, as well as Senior Government Officials.
